Two separate taxes
Saskatchewan charges the 5% federal GST plus its own 6% provincial sales tax. Both are calculated on the price before tax, neither compounds on the other, and both appear as separate lines.
PST reaches further than people expect
Saskatchewan’s PST applies to taxable goods and services consumed or used in the province, and that includes goods and services imported for consumption or use there. New and used goods are both taxable. The province’s own guidance also covers self-assessment: if you buy from an unlicensed out-of-province supplier who didn’t collect the tax, you must pay it directly to the Revenue Division yourself.
That last rule catches a lot of small businesses buying equipment or software from outside the province.
Registration is separate
PST is administered by Saskatchewan, not the CRA. Businesses operating in the province must register to obtain a PST number, in addition to any GST/HST account. There’s no input tax credit mechanism for PST, so it’s a real cost rather than something you recover on a return.
Backing out a total
Divide the total by 1 plus the combined rate, then calculate each tax on that pre-tax figure. The calculator shows both lines.

Common questions
How do I calculate GST and PST in Saskatchewan?
Each tax is calculated on the price before tax and the two are added. On a $100 item that's $5 GST and $6 PST, for $111.
Does Saskatchewan PST apply to services?
Yes. PST applies to taxable goods and services consumed or used in Saskatchewan, including goods and services imported for use in the province.
Do I need a PST number if I'm outside Saskatchewan?
Possibly. Businesses operating in Saskatchewan must register for a PST number, and that registration is separate from your GST/HST account.
What if the supplier didn't charge PST?
If an unlicensed out-of-province supplier doesn't collect PST, you must self-assess and pay it directly to the Revenue Division.
